Day Trip - Half day in Athens
Itinerary
We begin from the start point of Monastiraki Square, in the center of the old town of Athens. There we are seeing the Hadrian’s Library and some remains of the Roman Forum. Walking through the narrow streets and passing within the flea market, we arrive at the Ancient Forum, where the ancient temple of Thiseion dominates the area. Then, we continue our tour, talking the road round the Acropolis, an archeological site of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the ancient temple Parthenon. After our brief stop, we will set off towards the Temple of Zeus, a colossal ruined temple that was dedicated to Zeus, king of the Olympian gods. The remains of this once great temple still inspire awe to the visitors.
As we continue our walking tour, we will make a stop at the exquisite Panathenaic Stadium. Built on the site of an ancient Athenian stadium, it is entirely from marble, made for the first modern Olympic Games of 1896. It is very impressive and well worth a stop. We will continue onwards via the National Gardens for a brief stop outside the Greek Parliament. The traditionally dressed Evzones stand guarding outside the building; the changing of the guards is fun to see and get a feeling for Greek modern history. Our tour will end at Syntagma Square.
