Day Trip - Full day in Athens
Itinerary
Your driver will pick you up from the arranged point and we will start this full day sightseeing tour of Athens. As we enter the city center and our tour begins, we will make our first stop at the exquisite Panathenaic stadium. Built on the site of an ancient Athenian stadium, it is entirely from marble, made for the first modern Olympic Games of 1896. It is very impressive and well worth a stop. After that, we will set off towards the Temple of Zeus, a colossal ruined temple that was dedicated to Zeus, king of the Olympian gods. We will continue onwards via the National Gardens for a brief stop outside the Greek Parliament. The traditionally dressed Evzones stand guarding outside the building; the changing of the guards is fun to see and get a feeling for Greek modern history. Our driver will be waiting for us to take us to the Acropolis. With our cameras in hand and our walking shoes on, we will walk up to the site to enjoy the beauty of these magnificent buildings. We will see the Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Erechtheion and the Temple of Athena Nike.
Our visit to the Acropolis will end and our tour will continue with a walk to the new museum. The New Acropolis Museum opened in 2004 is one of the newest and one of the most impressive in Europe. Architecturally it is exquisite and the exhibits are laid out in such a way that allows the visitor to understand and appreciate the true beauty of the ancient Greek sculptures. After the visit to the new Museum, we will walk into the Plaka area. The beautiful streets of this area filled with small shops, cafes and taverns has been one of the favorite spots in Athens for years. We will stop for lunch at a local restaurant and have time to enjoy our meal. We continue to the last point of the excursion. It is a short drive to the archeological museum where we will have time to enjoy the incredible exhibits on display. The visit to the museum will take us to the end of the tour. At the exit of the Museum, our driver will be waiting for us to drive us to the ending point of the tour.
